Vinyl or fiber cement
Vinyl is still the product on the most houses. Fiber cement is the one gaining share. The choice is the wall and the weather, not a trend article.
Vinyl
About the largest share of U.S. siding. It does not need paint, it comes in a lot of colors, and a normal house often prices between $6,500 and $14,000. It is a poor choice as the only answer in a heavy hail belt or where the code wants noncombustible cladding.
Fiber cement
Heavier, paintable, and better against rot, insects, and many fire requirements. A typical re-side is often $11,000 to $22,000. The Northeast, the West, and hail states are where it earns that.
